In recent years, measures have been taken by Chenzhou to improve the quality of the city center, like the relocation and renovation of old markets such as Beihu and Majiaping, full coverage of household waste classification in public institutions and completion of black and smelly water treatment.

 

“Look! The roads are all tarred. Rain and sewage can be piped away for diversion. The stench from the septic tank is no longer floating around...” Chen Jianzhong, a resident from Renmin Road, Beihu District, relished the change of the new environment.

 

According to Chen Jianzhong, the old residential area built in the 1970s, originally suffered from severe ground damage, cracked walls and slant subsidence as well as blocked septic tanks. Last October, the Housing and Construction Bureau renovated it.

 

Now it has taken on a new look with renovated buildings, more parking spaces, beautiful gardens and comfortable living environment.

 

82 projects to renovate old residential areas were all started in Chenzhou in the first half of this year.

 

In recent years, 181,000 housing units belonging to “two types of houses and two types of shantytowns” (public rental houses, dilapidated rural houses, urban shantytowns and industrial and mining shantytowns) and 73,000 households in old residential areas have been renovated in Chenzhou, with more than 140,000 households getting historical house property registration issue solved.

 

 

A number of major projects have been completed, including Chenzhou Beihu Airport, Dongjiang Water Diversion, reconstruction and expansion of Chenzhou Railway Station, Linwu-Lianzhou Expressway and the Mangshan Reservoir. Chenzhou has been successfully awarded the National Civilized City and the National Water-saving City.
